Primary Learning Resources from the NCTE through Webwise.ie

The Internet is more and more becoming part of children lives. So it follows that it is also becoming part of the role of teachers and schools to prepare children for the online environment which they live in. Children are growing up digitally, in a world of connected, mobile, interactive personal media. The world they will operate in will require them to be creators and producers of content rather than mere consumers.

Parents and educators need to guide children and young people in developing digital literacy skills and competencies to help them communicate and socialise in safety in the online environments

In order to do this we need to show them how to be safe, we need to understand what they do online and we need to use it to reach them.  They may be very familiar with ICT and getting online but they are still young and vulnerable online. We need to teach them the emotional, personal and social learning skills necessary to keep them safe on- and off- line.

Assistance is available in the Learning Resources section of Webwise.ie, (the Internet safety initiative of the NCTE) The webwise team has worked with the Social Personal Health Education Curriculum Support Team to develop digital resources, activity sheets and teacher guides for teachers and parents of both primary and post primary school pupils.
