Assessment, Curriculum and Teaching Innovation On the Net is a section of the NCCA website designed to show rather that tell, the ‘how to'of teaching and learning through media like video, hotograph, text and audio.  Using specific projects and sample activities observed in real classrooms, ACTION provides teachers with resources and ideas to support their classroom practice.

One of these projects is the ICT Framework.  The objectives of the ICT Framework are to enable teachers to support students in:

  • exploring the potential of ICT to create, communicate and ollaborate, to organise and produce information (AREA C)
  • understanding and applying knowledge and functions of ICT including safe practice, maintenance and ergonomics (AREA F)
  • developing a critical appreciation of the role of ICT in society and habits which reflect ethical and responsible use of ICT (AREA S)
  • using ICT for thinking and learning including managing enquiry, accessing information, solving problems, and expressing ideas across a range of curriculum areas (AREA T)

NCCA collaborated with NCTE and a number of Digital Schools at primary level created sample activities in classes from Junior Infants to 6th class, activities corresponding to Levels 1 and 2 of the framework.  Each of the sample activities is linked to the learning outcomes of the framework, as well as to curriculum strands, strand units and objectives. The activities that are currently uploaded range from exploring shapes at infant level, to interviews with people who work in our community at 2nd class to recording folksongs from around the world in 5th and 6th classes. It is hoped to add to the sample activities over time.
