2010 Junior Spider: Irish School Internet Awards
Since 1996 the eircom Golden Spider Awards have honoured Irish individuals and organisations for their outstanding achievements online and celebrated the successes of the Irish internet and digital media.
Endorsed by the NCTE, the eircom Junior Spider Awards were established as a parallel programme for students at primary and post primary school level. The idea was originated by Business & Finance, working closely with main sponsors eircom.
The aim of these awards is:
- to independently and impartially recognise the success and innovation amongst existing internet users in schools and to encourage other students to commence using the web to further develop their education and technology skills.
- to provide a benchmark of excellence in schools and to encourage and promote best practice and internet safety awareness amongst students.
- to act as a catalyst for those students who wish to pursue a career in this sector by providing access to influential business executives. The 1st place prize for primary students is a trophy and €200.
The eircom Junior Spiders' - the Irish school internet awards - acknowledge innovation and creativity online among school students. We aim to promote the development of web usage across all schools on the island of Ireland by recognising and rewarding primary & secondary school students and teachers. Categories include ‘Best school propject' for primary schools and ‘Best web design' and ‘Best web app' among others for secondary schools. Entries close on 5th November and the event will include an exhibition with the finalists in the Helix, Glasnevin, Dublin on 17th December.
