About the Digital Schools Award
The Digital Schools Award is an initiative which recognises excellence in a school's approach to the integration of ICT in learning and teaching. This award aims to build on the excellent progress already made by schools in ICT integration and to encourage them to strive for further progression and improvement.
The Digital Schools Award is an initiative of the National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) in partnership with the IPPN, INTO and CESI. The award is currently open to primary schools only. See the How to Participate section for full details on getting involved.
To achieve a Digital Schools Award, each participating school must fulfil identified criteria which will be applied as part of the validation process. The criteria are organised under the following headings:
• Leadership & Vision
• ICT in the Curriculum
• School ICT Culture
• Professional Development
• Resources & Infrastructure
To assist in this process, participating schools use a self-evaluation tool based on the Digital Schools' criteria, to identify areas which meet the criteria and those that require improvement. Successful schools will receive a Digital Schools' plaque and logo that can be used on literature and on the school website.
The four partners involved in this initiative are: • National Centre for Technology in Education (NCTE) • Irish Primary Principals Network (IPPN) • Irish National Teachers’ Organisation (INTO) • Computer Education Society of Ireland (CESI)
